Karen Kilps is the School Counselor at Hope Elementary School! She loves this community and the community of Hope. Mrs. Kilps received her Bachelor's degree in Psychology in 2002 from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse and her Master's degree in School Counseling from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2020. She is also a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). Mrs. Kilps believes that each student at our school has incredible potential and will work with all her effort to help them reach it.
The School Counselor Role Includes. . .
- helping students with goal setting, understanding their own interests and skills, and achieving their potential
- classroom lessons on counseling-related topics
- group counseling activities to support student growth
- brief solution-focused individual counseling to support academic and social/emotional success
- providing support during crises
- collaborating with school staff, families, and the community
The School Counseling does not. . .
- take disciplinary action with students
- only provide career guidance
- tell parents or teachers what to do
- provide long term therapy
